La Roque Gageac

Rated 3ᵉ favorite village of the French, La Roque Gageac is just 7 km from Flower camping La Sagne. The narrow streets wind their way between noble residences to the church and its viewpoint over the Dordogne valley.
Departing from La Roque Gageac, you can discover the valley of the 5 castles by embarking on an authentic reproduction of 18ᵉ century gabares. A guided tour will take you back to a time when all transport (wine, fish, salt, chestnuts, truffles…) was done by boat.

Sarlat

An exceptional city, capital of the Périgord Noir region, 8 km from the La Sagne campsite. You’ll be amazed by this exceptional heritage, including the house where Etienne de la Boëtie was born, the former church of Sainte Marie, which houses the covered market, and the cathedral of Saint Sacerdos and its former bishop’s palace.

You’ll also find yourself stopping more than once in front of a hotel in Sarlat la Canéda, so impressive are the Renaissance mansions with their towers, facades and monumental staircases. Sarlat shines with its authentic architecture, cobblestone streets, medieval alleyways, lauze roofs and ochre stone. It’s a lively town all year round, with markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Come and discover Périgord gastronomy: truffles, porcini mushrooms, walnuts, foie gras, confits, magrets and other delicacies to delight your taste buds. Domme

Just 7 km from the campsite, visit the village of Domme, a bastide built on a cliff. Thanks to its height, Domme overlooks the Dordogne valley and the neighbouring villages of La Roque Gageac and Beynac-et-Cazenac. In short, a must-see if you’re looking for peace and quiet and want to discover the heritage of the Périgord Noir. Things to do :

The fortified town of Beynac et Cazenac

Just 15 km from Flower camping la Sagne, discoverone of France’s most beautiful villages , with its imposing 12ᵉ century castle standing on its rocky outcrop. Traverse five centuries of history, in the footsteps of Richard the Lionheart and the Hundred Years’ War. Visit the charming little village, strolling along cobbled streets lined with houses with lauze roofs and blond facades. Visit Beynac and experience total immersion in the heart of the Middle Ages.

In 2020, Ridley Scott’s film “The Last Duel”, starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, was shot in Beynac.

Just 15 km from the campsite, the Castelnaud fortified castle offers a splendid view over the Marqueyssac gardens and the villages of La Roque Gageac and Beynac. Come and discover the museum of warfare in the Middle Ages. Numerous events are scheduled during the summer: fitting of armor or chatelaine dresses, medieval storytelling, sword-fighting lessons… Castelnaud castle is open all year round, so young and old alike can learn while having fun.

A little further afield, 35 km from the campsite, visit Lascaux IV, which reproduces in full the cave paintings and engravings of the famous prehistoric cave discovered in 1940. Located in the Vézère valley, it’s a must-see on your tour of the Dordogne. Digital tablets and 3D cinema will help you understand the secrets of this masterpiece of cave art.

Les Eyzies de Tayac Sireuil

30 km from Flower camping La Sagne, you’ll discover a unique troglodyte architecture, an exceptional natural area and, of course, prehistory. It was here that Cro-Magnon Man was discovered, in the Cro-Magnon shelter, and the last polychrome cave open to the public: Font de Gaume. The National Prehistory Museum and the International Prehistory Center are both based in Les Eyzies. Most of the collections come from sites and deposits in the Vézère valley, known as the “Valley of Man”. The Padirac chasm

60 km from the campsite, come and discover the Gouffre de Padirac, an enormous cavity 33 metres in diameter and 75 metres deep. Start by descending 103 metres underground on foot or by elevator, then take a boat ride on the underground river. Admire the Grande Pendeloque, a 60-metre-long stalactite, and the Salle du Grand Dôme, whose vault rises to a height of 94 metres. Quite simply, a marvel!

Rocamadour

A must for your stay in the Dordogne, 50 km from the campsite. Rocamadour is a small town built in successive tiers on a cliffside, 120 metres above a canyon through which the Alzou flows.

Enter the medieval town through the Porte du Figuier, then follow the unique Rue de Rocamadour, a lively street of stores and restaurants. Take the monumental 233-step staircase up to the church square. Don’t miss: the Notre-Dame chapel with the Black Madonna. Overlooking the village, the castle with its ramparts and Way of the Cross.

Visit the Grotte des Merveilles, a prehistoric cave lined with a multitude of crystalline concretions and decorated with drawings dating back over 2000 years. And for those with a taste for cheese, try “cabécou de Rocamadour”, a delicious little goat’s cheese made from whole raw milk.
